Tech mogul Elon Musk declared that his artificial intelligence firm, X.AI Corp., which develops AI solutions including the Grok chatbot, will be integrated into SpaceX as its AI division.
“xAI will cease to exist as a standalone entity; what remains will be SpaceXAI, representing the artificial intelligence offerings from SpaceX,” he stated on the X social platform.
On Wednesday, in an announcement detailing a computational resource collaboration with Anthropic, xAI referred to itself as SpaceXAI.
The announcement read: “SpaceXAI has formalized an arrangement with Anthropic to grant access to Colossus 1 (a supercomputer engineered by xAI, according to RBC), ranking among the world’s largest and quickest-to-deploy artificial intelligence supercomputers.”
Musk had previously voiced significant criticism of Anthropic stemming from disagreements with the U.S. government. In March, Anthropic revoked xAI’s access to its Claude large language models (LLMs).
Back in the mid-2010s, Musk had intended to commit up to $1 billion toward OpenAI but departed its board in 2018 citing disagreements over safety protocols. The formation of xAI, established by Musk as a startup, commenced in March 2023. In February, Musk revealed plans for a merger between SpaceX and xAI Holdings.
