Canadians spotted a luminous, cone-shaped entity in the sky, leading some to believe it was an unidentified flying object. The New York Post reported on this clash between speculation and scientific explanation.
The peculiar sight was witnessed on the evening of May 5th over the province of British Columbia. Residents swiftly took to social media, posting pictures and videos. Numerous individuals voiced concerns, speculating that an extraterrestrial vessel was traversing the heavens.
Subsequently, experts clarified that what the Canadians likely observed was the ‘jellyfish effect’ following a launch of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The launch itself occurred in California, and the unusual aerial object manifested above Canada roughly sixty minutes later.
Astronomers elaborated that the exhaust from the spent rocket propellant created a cloud formation in the upper atmosphere. This cloud was illuminated by sunlight, even though the sun had already set for observers on the ground, thus producing the bright, glowing outline in the sky.
