A 38-year-old man named Steven Mattaboni was fatally attacked by a great white shark while spear-fishing with companions near the Horseshoe Reef, according to a report from news.com.au.
The shark, believed to have been between four and five meters long, targeted Mattaboni close to Rottnest Island. The predator inflicted a bite on the man’s shin, which occurred directly in view of his friends.
After the shark departed, the companions managed to pull Mattaboni from the water and administered CPR en route. They transported him straight to the shore at Geordie Bay, where paramedics and a rescue helicopter were already standing by.
Upon reaching the land, medical personnel continued resuscitation efforts, performing CPR and chest compressions, but to no avail. The injuries sustained proved to be too extensive. Mr. Mattaboni is survived by his wife and two young daughters.
