
SpaceX is preparing to construct a massive 10-gigawatt solar panel production facility in the vicinity of Austin, Texas.
This endeavor forms a critical component of Elon Musk’s strategy to supply power to data centers dedicated to artificial intelligence, including those intended for extraterrestrial deployment.
As reported by Bloomberg, the new plant is poised to rank among the globe’s largest solar panel manufacturing sites. Its production capacity will be sufficient to annually generate equipment capable of producing up to 10 GW of clean energy, which is roughly equivalent to 10% of the United States’ current solar output.
This initiative is directly tied to Musk’s ambitious vision of establishing orbital data centers. These space-based complexes, powered by solar energy, are intended to alleviate strain on terrestrial power grids and facilitate extremely rapid computations for training AI models. SpaceX is already actively exploring energy transmission and cooling technologies suitable for zero-gravity environments.
The realization of this project is anticipated to generate thousands of employment opportunities in Texas and stimulate further investment within the region.
