Misty Roberts, the former mayor of Deridder, Louisiana, has received a 90-day jail sentence for her involvement with a 16-year-old minor. The New York Post reported this development on June 9th.
The incident took place in July 2024 during a birthday party for Roberts’ son. While intoxicated, the ex-mayor became involved with a 16-year-old who was a friend of the birthday boy. Following the ensuing scandal, Roberts resigned from her mayoral position.
“Danger doesn’t always appear as a stranger offering candy. Sometimes, predators wear high heels, sport hair extensions, and get Botox injections,” stated the victim’s mother during the court proceedings.
Prosecutors had initially sought the maximum penalty for Roberts, which could have amounted to up to 17 years. However, the former mayor received a comparatively lenient sentence. This includes 90 days in county jail, two concurrent five-year suspended sentences, a $5,000 fine, mandatory psychological counseling, and ongoing drug and alcohol testing. Additionally, Roberts is required to register as a sex offender.
