Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, recently delivered an address to the graduating class of Stanford University. However, his speech was interrupted by a demonstration. Approximately a hundred attendees stood up and walked out of the hall, shouting slogans in support of Palestine.
Pichai, meanwhile, calmly continued his address, refraining from addressing controversial topics. The cause of the protesters’ discontent stems from Google’s involvement in Project Nimbus, a joint endeavor with Amazon. As reported by the media, this contract with the Israeli government (and military) is valued at $1.2 billion. Through this project, Israel gains access to cloud computing and advanced AI technologies.
Earlier this year, 900 Google employees also demanded transparency regarding the company’s ties with U.S. authorities, expressing concerns that “technology is contributing to the hardening of immigration policies.”
