Portugal’s captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, announced that he has played in the final World Cup of his career. At the 2026 tournament, his team was eliminated in the round of 16 by Spain with a 0-1 loss.
“It’s true that this was my last World Cup. As for everything else, I need to think it over with my family and avoid making any rushed decisions,” Ronaldo said, as quoted by O Jogo.
Ronaldo has taken part in six World Cups. His best performance came in his debut tournament in 2006, when Portugal finished in fourth place.
In total, he has played 27 matches at World Cups, scoring 10 goals.
Under Ronaldo’s leadership, Portugal won the 2026 European Championship and two Nations League titles.
