Colombian national team midfielder Jaminton Campaz has refused to return to his home country after being eliminated from the 2026 World Cup, citing threats he has received. This was reported by journalist Camilo Pinto.
Colombia was eliminated in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, losing to Switzerland on penalties (0-0 after extra time, 3-4 in the shootout). Campaz missed a dangerous chance in the 115th minute of extra time, although he did successfully convert his attempt from the penalty spot.
Following the match against Switzerland, Campaz and his family began receiving threats. The player took these threats seriously and decided against returning to Colombia. The midfielder currently plays for the Argentine club Rosario.
