Phoebe Gates, daughter of billionaire Bill Gates, is facing allegations of fraud related to the launch of her own startup. This information comes from the German publication Spiegel.
According to the source, her company is currently under severe criticism. An investigation has revealed that the firm, Phia, allegedly pocketed sales commissions that were supposed to go to other organizations.
The startup specializes in online commerce powered by artificial intelligence and is accused of improperly collecting commissions on purchases made at other internet retailers. Phia marketed itself as a service that identifies the best deals and discount coupons for users shopping online.
During the investigation, it was discovered that the company’s browser extension likely deceived online stores in order to claim commissions. Since then, the company has discontinued this controversial practice.
It is alleged that the browser extension would open a hidden tab in the background during the checkout process and insert its own referral code without any action from the buyer.
