A teenager died and three other people were injured when a fountain collapsed in Spain’s Salamanca province during celebrations of the national team’s World Cup victory. This was reported on July 20 by the Europa Press agency, citing police sources.
The incident occurred in the city of Ciudad Rodrigo on the night of July 19-20.
According to the agency, young people, inspired by the team’s triumph, gathered near a fountain in Ciudad Rodrigo. Part of the structure collapsed, and one of the stones fell on a 13-year-old teenager. He died despite attempts to provide him with assistance. Three other young people were injured and are in serious condition. The circumstances of the incident are under investigation.
On July 8 in Argentina, a national team fan died after being struck in the head by a stone during celebrations of a World Cup victory. The deceased was identified as 46-year-old Franco Depauli. According to relatives, he noticed unrest on the street, decided to retrieve something from the car trunk, and at that moment was hit in the head by a stone, losing consciousness instantly.
Meanwhile, Spain’s national team defeated Argentina in the World Cup final on July 19. In the winning team, forward Ferran Torres scored a goal (106th minute), assisted by forward Nico Williams. During the match, two Spanish goals were also disallowed.
