The National Hockey League has unveiled the contenders for the “Lady Byng Trophy,” an accolade bestowed upon the player who exemplifies the finest standards of fair play and gentlemanly conduct while maintaining superior on-ice skill.
The final three nominees are: Cole Caufield of the Montreal Canadiens, Anze Kopitar from the Los Angeles Kings, and Jake Sanderson of the Ottawa Senators.
Cole Caufield finished second in the NHL for goals scored this season, achieving a personal best of 51 pucks in the net. He is the first player in the history of the Canadiens franchise to hit the 50-goal mark since the 1989/1990 campaign. The 25-year-old forward accumulated 88 points (51 goals and 37 assists) across 81 contests, placing him tied for 15th among the league’s top scorers.
Kopitar reaches the nomination stage for the fifth time, having secured this honor on three previous occasions, including just last season. Over 67 games, he registered 38 points (12 goals and 26 assists). The veteran is concluding his illustrious NHL tenure with a total of 1316 points (452 goals and 864 assists) accumulated across 1521 regular-season appearances.
Sanderson put up 54 points (14 goals and 40 assists) in 67 games played. Notably, he was assessed a mere four minor penalties throughout the entire season. Jake, appearing as a finalist for the first time, holds the potential to become the inaugural Ottawa Senators skater to ever claim this distinction.
