A team of 20 Ethiopian youth soccer players, aged 14 to 17, failed to return home following the Gothia Cup tournament in Sweden. The Sweden Herald reported this on Tuesday, July 28.
On the final day of the tournament, an administrator at the school where the team was staying discovered that they had left without notice. Organizers contacted the police, who filed a missing persons report.
The team never returned to Ethiopia. However, police stated that there were “no signs of anything illegal behind this, such as human trafficking or anything of that nature,” according to the report.
