Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche stated he cannot account for the timing of the charges brought against former Cuban leader Raul Castro.
Previously, U.S. authorities had leveled accusations against Castro and others for conspiring to murder Americans.
“I can’t explain or justify why now, rather than 30 years ago when it happened,” Blanche remarked at a Miami press conference when questioned on the matter.
The official further clarified that Castro and other individuals are accused in the deaths of four Americans.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel declared that the accusations against Castro lack legal merit.
