In the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, a bear attacked an elderly couple while they were fishing. The MacDonald couple had come to Lake Mactavish to relax at their cabin and do some fishing. Both lost their lives. People reports this.
Concerns were raised by relatives when the couple stopped answering phone calls. Police arriving at the scene discovered the body of Jay MacDonald on the lakeshore. His wife Deb was found only the following day in the woods not far from the cabin. The victim’s brother, Don James LeBlanc, told CBC News that the couple had previously mentioned the presence of numerous black bears in the area. Both were in their early 70s. Deb worked as a nurse, while Jay dealt with agricultural machinery.
The attacking predator was tracked down and put to sleep. Its carcass has been sent to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine for an autopsy. Initially, the couple’s deaths were treated as suspicious, but the investigation has now been handed over to the Saskatchewan Conservation Service and the coroner’s office.
The Ministry of Public Safety expressed condolences to the family and urged local residents and cottage owners to exercise caution due to wild animal activity in the area.
