In the final vote, the defender’s goal beat out strikes by Eldor Shomurodov of Uzbekistan and Wilson Isidor, representing Haiti, who took second and third place respectively. Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi, Jude Bellingham, and Ferran Torres were also among the nominees for the award.
