A military court found Saisan Dowsett guilty of multiple counts of sexual assault.
In the UK, a Royal Navy officer was sentenced to 18 months in a military prison for harassing fellow service members. Dowsett was convicted on six counts of sexual offenses.
According to the Daily Mail, the 25-year-old served as a junior officer on a warship. Investigators established that she repeatedly violated the personal boundaries of at least four crew members.
The court found that Dowsett harassed colleagues—including new crew members who may have been afraid to complain about her behavior. The incidents included touching men’s intimate areas in front of other sailors, as well as misconduct toward female crew members.
One of the victims stated that Dowsett could be aggressive and intimidating. Witnesses reported that many hesitated for a long time to report the incidents due to fear of her.
Her defense lawyer attempted to attribute her behavior to autism, but the court did not consider this grounds for a more lenient sentence.
The military tribunal also ordered Dowsett’s dismissal from the Royal Navy. The judge noted that her actions undermined trust within the crew and violated the code of conduct applicable on a warship.
