The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has restricted access to Anthropic’s cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) models, Mythos 5 and Fable 5, for foreign nations and individuals, according to a report by Axios.
“The Trump administration is blocking foreign governments, companies, and private citizens from accessing Anthropic’s most advanced AI models, compelling the company to disable access for all clients simultaneously,” the outlet’s publication stated.
According to Axios, on Friday, U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lattnik informed Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei in a letter that the Mythos 5 and Fable 5 models would be subject to export controls. This restriction extends beyond U.S. borders, with access to the models also being limited for foreign nationals within the country.
An unnamed U.S. administration official told the portal that authorities decided to act after reports emerged suggesting that Mythos could be hacked. This raised concerns about a potential threat to the nation’s security. The official noted that access to both models will likely remain restricted for several more weeks.
